Established in 1980 as Banksia Park Pony Stud by Marion Cahill and her sister Jenny Ferguson, the stud changed its name to Leica Pony Stud in 1982 and Marion Cahill continued as sole proprietor.

The stud started with the intention to breed quality ponies of sound temperament and conformation based on a cross of Arabian, Australian and Welsh ponies suitable for children in saddle and as harness ponies. This has been proven many times over with Leica ponies taking my children through PC, Hacking, Eventing and Show Jumping and myself with Harness and Halter showing. Ponies that have been sold have excelled in Hacking, Endurance, Dressage, Pony Club, Pleasure Riding and Breeding. Leica`s foundation stallion ALIYHA BAR SHAHR, with his amazing movement and temperament, was put over our Australian Pony mares Balmoral Barbiella and Neva-Tia Natalie, the resulting foals proved to be grand champions in both Hand, Under Saddle and in Harness.

These two mares, along with the Arabian Pony Mare Simoom Duchess and the Arabian mare Balaling Katina went on to produce many more stunning show ponies, some of these fillies were retained and now have joined the Leica brood mare band as have some of their grand daughters. Also Leica Pony Stud retained a colt in 1986 LEICA CHLZAH MANTANIA who was sold in 2000 being replaced by two daughters and a son LEICA CHAS WAHID who is now Leica`s stallion at stud along with BUREYER SAMAS.

In 1999 Leica Stud purchased the small galloway Riding Pony Stallion BEVANLEE ASTRONOMER to put over Leica`s pure Arabian, TB and Arabian Pony broodmares to produce outstanding Galloways and Riding Ponies which possess temperament, movement and trainability.

2002 will be the last foal crop of Astronomers for Leica as he has now been sold on to become a galloway show hack, a filly will be retained for the future breeding of the stud.
